1h. on the way to Compostela
The shoreline route of the Way of St. James made a stop in Bilbao and the city dedicated its main temple to the Apostol.
After the church was devastated by a fire in 1374, they erected a new Gothic building (three staggered naves, with a triforium, stained glass windows, and an ambulatory). This building is completed by the sacristy and a fragile cloister. Outside, the majestic portico contributes to supporting the weight of the temple, built on an unstable ground. We finish our tour at the main entrance, conceived as a revivalist architecture at the end of the XIX century, recalling an apparent original Gothic.
