3: Renaissance

After the abundance of late Gothic works, there are fewer Renaissance pieces. Pieces such as Mechelen alabasters continue to arrive from Flanders. On occasions, it is the artists who are ‘imported’, as is the case with the Beaugrant family. After a first stage, which sees a mixture of the Gothic inheritance with new Italian features, Romanism arrives, bringing the very pervasive influence of Michelangelo and his monumental anatomies.
